Thatcher graduated from Fort Hays State University with a B.B.A. in Finance. Before attending FHSU, he played basketball for two years at Garden City Community College. After graduation, he worked in the banking industry as a bank manager and commercial lender.
Thatcher is an avid sports fan and lives in Lincoln, Kansas with his wife, two sons, and two foster children. He serves as a board member for the Lincoln County Economic Development Foundation, and enjoys volunteering in the community.
